Joanne Sheahan – Programme Executive, SEAI


    Joanne Sheahan is passionate about cutting-edge solutions to Ireland’s energy challenges. Joanne works on SEAI’s Research, Development, Demonstration and Innovation (RDDI) Programme where she supports businesses and researchers develop new energy solutions, as well as enhancing Ireland’s national capacity to access international class research and development funding.

    Joanne is an expert in sustainable energy research and technologies. Joanne is the national contact point for NER 300, a European funding programme for innovative low-carbon energy demonstration projects and coordinates SEAI’s International Energy Agency (IEA) activities. She was the National Delegate under the Horizon 2020 Energy Work Programme from 2015-2017, representing Ireland’s energy priorities at the European Commission. Joanne initiated, and coordinates Ireland’s Women in Energy Network. She holds a MSc in Ecological Economics and a law degree.

    Synopsis: Climate change is the most significant threat faced by the world today. Critical to meeting Ireland’s legally binding targets are new innovative market, policy and technical solutions that will reduce our carbon emissions and support a thriving and efficient clean energy sector.

    Phil heads up a dynamic team managing a multi-million-euro research fund, providing financial and other supports to develop new and innovative responses to the energy challenges we face. His team engage with researchers across a diverse range of energy research topics and have in-depth knowledge of innovative energy research projects with commercial and environmental benefits for Ireland.

    Phil will provide the audience with an overview of the SEAI RD&D funding programme, details of innovative energy research projects which have previously received support & the impact which they have achieved, details EU energy research funding and opportunities to benefit from engagement with the International Energy Agency.
