    Advanced Materials and Bioengineering Research Centre  (AMBER)– Partnering for Materials Impact

    Presentation Synopsis:

    AMBER is the national centre for materials science research and one of the key drivers for Ireland’s growing international reputation for excellence in materials science research.    We are carrying out disruptive research with our industry partners – synthesising, designing and engineering materials for specific applications and products.  We partner across established companies both multinational and SMEs and emerging companies and spin outs to innovate new products and process and exploit these internationally  This provides economic growth for Ireland and extends the country’s reputation as a crenate for manufacturing and industrial research excellence.  The presentation will provide an overview of the centre’s activities and will include some case studies describing our collaboration with industry.

    Speaker Bio:

    Dr. Lorraine Byrne is the Executive Director of the CRANN Institute and AMBER National Centre.  Lorraine has a PhD. In Analytical Chemistry and a B.Sc in Analytical Science both from Dublin City University.  Prior to joining AMBER she spent 18 years with Hewlett Packard in the InkJet printing division where she held a number of technical roles in the areas of Ink Chemistry, Failure Analysis and Research and Development.  She was the lead technologist with the Emerging Technologies research team focusing on printed electronics and flexible displays.  As part of her role she led a significant research program in the area of flexible transparent electronics which involved a significant collaboration with the CRANN institute as well as participation in a number of EU Framework 6 programs.  Lorraine has filed 5 patents in the area of flexible electronics of which 3 have been granted
