Title: In need of a good night’s sleep – or the consequences of sleep deprivation

Synopsis: There are international recommendations that we aspire to getting 7 to 9 hours sleep per night. This is based on evidence that poor sleep can lead to cardiovascular disease and death. Furthermore, lack of sleep increases the risk of road traffic accidents, obesity, and depression. Lifestyle pressures as well as the emergence of sleep disorders such as Obstructive Sleep Apnoea syndrome are among the reasons for this poor sleep.
