Title: Developing key structures and resources to support medical device clinical research in Ireland

Synopsis: This talk will focus on the Clinical Research Development Ireland (CRDI) / CÚRAM Partnership, a collaboration which provides significant opportunities to advance medical device clinical research through the development of training and information resources designed to impart important industry, research and regulatory concepts relevant to the entire life cycle of medical device development. Project deliverables include interactive e-Learning modules and a MedTechTranslate web-portal designed to support the acquisition of skills and knowledge on medical device regulation, map regulatory requirements and pathways to the medical device life cycle, signpost users to regulatory organisations, provide access to pertinent resources and documentation and facilitate cross-sector connections (academic/clinical/industry) to support medical device innovation. Significantly, the ongoing success of this work is underpinned by constructive engagement with industry, regulators, academic researchers, clinicians and the national clinical research infrastructure.

CRDI (formerly MMI) is a not-for-profit partnership comprising NUI Galway, The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Trinity College Dublin, University College Cork and University College Dublin with the mission of supporting the development of clinical and translational research across our partner academic institutions, their medical schools and associated hospitals. CÚRAM is the national centre for research in medical devices. Its researchers focus on designing and manufacturing ‘smart’ medical devices to improve health outcomes and quality of life for those with chronic illness.
